1) Prohibition of halogens: a logical consequence of the ban on incandescent bulbs
The halogen ban is a logical continuation of the elimination
of the 2009 incandescent lamp market. Since the sale was not banned so as not
to throw in the trash the existing stocks, which would not have been very
ecological, we could find in the trade of halogens after the prohibition.
Wanting at all costs to stay on a halogen bulb has however very little sense.
Not only LED equivalents can achieve the same brightness but at a much lower the cost in terms of power consumption.
Of course, LED is more expensive to buy, but the difference
is quickly amortized thanks to savings pocketed. In addition, this ban has
boosted the manufacture of LED bulbs, which means they are cheaper and cheaper.
2) What are the conditions for replacing a halogen bulb with an equivalent LED?
How to choose the base of your LED bulb?
None, from the moment the base is identical, the LED bulb is
suitable for your installation. You have nothing to do ... except change the
bulb. Another advantage of the LED bulb, in addition to its minimal
consumption: it can be coupled to a dimmer to be able to modulate the intensity
of your lighting.
How to choose the power of its LED bulb?
When one is not accustomed to the wattage of LED bulbs,
there is something to be destabilized. The LED bulb produces much more lumens
per watt of consumption, their wattage is much lower than that of conventional
bulbs. Depending on the product, from 5 to 10 times more. But, rest assured,
the equivalent of a conventional bulb is most often indicated, which allows you
to get an idea of the power offered by an LED bulb that you buy online, for
example.
3) The prohibition of halogen, an aesthetic concern? No!
If you look at your old bulbs for aesthetic reasons and you
feel that the halogen ban will ruin your decoration, rest assured. Given the
growing demand for LED, these bulbs are now available in many models. Especially
in imitations of old bulbs that integrate LED technology. The nostalgic
filament need not worry about this prohibition of halogens. Substitutes exist.
And they consume much less electricity!
