HISTORY OF THE BULB TO THE LED BULB
THE BULB TO THE LED BULB
The beautiful story of the electroluminescent diode
continues to revolutionize the world in which we live. It is from this term that comes to the
abbreviated term "LED bulb" in French, or LED in English (for
light-emitting diode.)
Discovery of LED technology
It was in Russia that the first LED lamp was invented in
1927. But no practical application could result for decades. It is thanks to
the work of American and Japanese researchers mainly that LED technology has developed, some of
which will be rewarded with a Nobel Prize in physics. It is from this
technology that was born the remote control, which uses an infrared LED bulb.
The appearance of the white LED
Looks like it took years of research to get LEDs that emit
the primary colors of red, green and blue. The appearance of the trio was a
revolution. The set allowed to obtain white light, or any other color of the
prism by mixing them.
Another revolution quickly followed the white LED "by
mixing": a discovery that allowed to obtain white LED light via a single
diode. The thing? Cover with phosphor a blue LED lamp.
LED bulb, the rise in power
Starting from low power, an LED bulb is mainly used in
equipment that has a battery-type power supply. For example, in cars for
indicators on the dashboard, remote controls for radio-controlled vehicles,
etc.
It is beside the automobile that is behind the development
of the LED lamps that we use today. Anxious to offer efficient lighting without
draining the battery, the manufacturers have invested a lot in this area. Cities
have since been a spearhead of LED, which allows them to significantly reduce
their lighting bills. In offices and homes, LED is spreading just as fast,
thanks to prices that keep falling and efficiency that follows the opposite
curve.
